Panorama

Assignment #6- Take a number of individual pics (usually about 3-10 or 12)and then use Photoshop to merge them into one panoramic photo.
I love this assignment. It has opened a lot of new possibilities in my photo taking world.

There are a lot of shots that I just cannot get entirely in one frame with my lil' ol' 55mm lens. Now if I had say a wide angle lense it would not be a problem....anyone out there have one just sittin around their house gatherin dust they wanna donate to the cause?

Anyone?

... okay then. I'll just enjoy being able to put a bunch of shots together for now. :)
Oh the plans I have with this technique... Moab, The Farm... FALL!!! I'm so excited for the fall! :)

This one was taken between Cedar Fort and Lehi. I used 5 individual shots for this. I'm not happy with the focus of the branches in front- some are more in focus then others:



This one was taken at the same place, but with more on the right side (Oh- and I used 7 individual shots for this one:



This one was taken just before you hit Cedar Fort, and I think I used about 10 pictures to make it:



Okay, so you probably can't see them well- because, by nature, Panoramics are long and thin. I think if you double click on them they will enlarge.
..Hmmmm... then again, maybe you should forget that last suggestion. This way the flaws are a lot less noticeable. :)

Depth of Field or Bokeh

Assignment #5 DOF:

This is actually one of my favorite techniques in Photography. It's called Shallow Depth of Field or Bokeh. The idea is focus in the subject and blur the rest (back ground and/or foreground). I like they way it makes your eye go straight to what you are wanting to be the subject of your picture. I've seen it with Christmas lights in the background and I love the way that looks. However... I seem to be at a loss for decorated Christmas tress at the moment- it being February and all- so I'll have to try those pictures next winter. :)

Landscapes and Action Shots

These are by far not my favorite pictures. However, I will admit that I did learn a little from taking them so... guess I'm a little okay with them...

Photo assignment 3: Take a picture of a landscape... apparently mountains are a MUST for this particular photo-op... ;0)

I decided to go around to the other side of the lake to see what I could find- not my favorite, but it's February people! Who gives an assignment to shoot a landscape in absolutely THE most ugly month of the year?!
Point: don't judge my composition too badly. :) Thank you very much.



Photo assignment #4: STOP the action
I found this old flag when I was driving down the street, and I love the character. It's ratted and dirty, but I felt like it was just more interesting then a crisp flag with no flaws...ya know?

Color Me Mine

Last Monday was B's "mommy and me" day, and she was nice enough to invite me and grandma along. We went to Color Me Mine in the Shops at Riverwood.




We walked in at about two and didn't leave until around six! Are you kidding me? It was a lot of fun. First trying to figure out what to paint, then deciding how to paint it, and finally trying to put on the finishing touches.




B tried out a bubble technique that made the inside of her mug that turned out so cute!









Once we were finished we turned in our final product...




And three days later....Presto!!






Oh- what creative girls we are! :)

Assignment #3

Assignment #3 was to take a picture of someone else using a fill flash (basically a subdued flash used alongside another light source to take out the shadows).
This weeks victim...Parker. Who is a little more pricey at the going bribe of Nerf gun darts and a quick trip to McDonalds.

Photo assignment #2

As my photography class moves along, I am planning on posting some of the pictures that I take. The hope is that I will slowly be able to improve as the semester moves along....
My fist assignment was a self portrait, but I'm not too keen on posting a bunch of pictures of yours truly so you'll just have to excuse me for skipping that one here at the blog of Dawney....

So, the specifications of my second assignment was to take a portrait of someone else in only natural light. No flash. No lights (lamps, fixtures, etc.). My first victim...or subject was Peanut. He works for Baybell cheese by the way.

We took some pictures in front of the house:


We took pictures by an old wooden fence:


and we took pictures in the big comfy chair by the window:


and just for fun I took pictures of Squishy:

How do you let your security "blanket" go??

Last month I decided I wanted to take up photography:

*Sign up for weekly photography class (found because of Tiffanie)- check
*Purchase one DSLR camera- check (after some trial and error mind you)
*Obtain one oh-so-cute camera bag- check
*Read up on all sorts of savvy tips from The Pioneer Woman (who I found thanks to Justin and Kim)- check(ing)
*Read manual- half check ;)

As you can see I am so good at this new adventure that I managed to take a picture of my new camera/oh-so-cute case.... with my old point and shoot. ;)


Worse then this??? My first assignment in the above mentioned class was to take a self portrait. Which I did....with my old point and shoot.



I did, however, take my new camera to my cute as all get out nephew's (Squishy)first birthday party, and then made sure my mom took pictures.... with my old point and shoot just to make sure that I had some decent ones.



I think I have a problem. I don't know how to let go of the security that my old point and shoot gives me. *sigh* It's time to move on though, so....
I have another assignment due this Friday (a portrait of someone else) that I am determined to take with my new camera... I hope
